DO YOU HAVE WATER IN YOUR BASEMENT?

Wet basement? Yikes!

If you have water in your basement, you’re not alone! It’s no consolation knowing that you’re not the only one who has a wet basement, but it does tell you that there are really good solutions to this problem because it’s much more common than you think.

Interestingly, most people’s initial reaction to a wet basement is to think that the foundation of the home is the major culprit and needs to be fixed straight-away. We have found that this isn’t always the case.

A wet basement is one of the most stressful problems you can have as a homeowner, so it’s a valid concern that should be urgently remedied.

Before calling out the foundation repair contractor, we think it’s more prudent to call a trustworthy, reputable and capable gutter contractor.

Water in the basement is a 2-fold problem:

  1. First, the run off water from the roof is concentrating an enormous amount of water at your foundation (typically where your eave rooflines are located) and those are almost always the locations in which the most water is infiltrating the basement.

  2. Second, the ground water may be seeping into the foundation/ basement and creating a flood due to Hydrostatic Pressure (essentially the ground is so saturated with water which creates a pressure differential that permits the water to flow into the basement through the foundation).

The best way to fix it is to first stop the bleeding by controlling the roof runoff with a well designed and installed gutter system, then if the water continues to infiltrate, then get the foundation repaired and potentially installing a sump pump system (that will pump out any excess water that pools in the basement).

So if a wet basement is stressing you out, then a new high functioning gutter system will make a big improvement. We can help you with that!
